Typing Speed Trend

Type for at least two seconds to see an observed speed trend.

Personal bests are stored only as score summaries on this device, separately for each duration and text mode.

Your typed text stays in page memory and is never uploaded. Only personal-best WPM, accuracy, mode and duration can be stored locally. Do not type passwords or sensitive information.

THE PROCESS

How to Use

01

Choose text and time

Choose Words or Sentences and 15, 30, 60, or 120 seconds. New Text creates a fresh local passage; changing a mode clears the unfinished round.

02

Type the passage

Click Start or focus the input. The first committed printable character starts the clock. Type spaces, case and punctuation as shown; Backspace can correct mistakes.

03

Review your result

Review WPM, accuracy, CPM, errors and the observed speed trend. Try Again repeats the passage. Copy Result includes scores only; personal bests are kept separately for each mode.

WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN

How to Interpret Results

Displayed WPM is the number of correctly retained grapheme characters, including spaces and punctuation, divided by five and by elapsed minutes. CPM uses the same correctly retained count without dividing by five. Gross WPM uses all committed printable input attempts, including mistakes.

Accuracy is correct printable input attempts divided by all printable input attempts. Backspace is not an input attempt; an error remains in historical accuracy after correction. Correcting and retyping a character cannot inflate displayed WPM, because only the current correctly retained text contributes.

Live speed uses a minimum one-second denominator for a steadier start. Final results use actual elapsed time; a fully correct passage finishes early. No score is divided by zero. Trend points are observed about once each second, with no invented points for missed intervals.

Intermediate IME composition is not scored; committed text is normalized and compared as Unicode graphemes. These passages and WPM conventions are designed for English. Pasting or dropping text is excluded. Focus loss or a hidden page interrupts the round and prevents a new personal best.

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between displayed WPM and Gross WPM?

Five correctly retained characters count as one standardized word for displayed WPM. Gross WPM uses all printable input attempts, including incorrect or later corrected characters. CPM is correctly retained characters per minute, not keyboard CPS.

Does fixing a mistake restore 100% accuracy?

No. A corrected character stops contributing to current uncorrected errors, but the original incorrect attempt stays in historical accuracy. Repeated deletion and retyping do not increase correctly retained characters beyond the passage.

When does the timer start and stop?

Focus or Start prepares the test. The first committed printable input starts a monotonic timer; empty input, modifiers and unfinished composition do not start it. The round ends at the selected deadline or when the entire passage is correct. Losing focus or hiding the page marks it Interrupted.

What is saved as my Personal Best?

Only best WPM, accuracy, selected duration and text mode are saved locally on this device. Typed text and input history are never stored or uploaded. Reset Personal Best removes those summaries. If local storage is unavailable, typing and results still work.
